Now that May is finally here, students all across north Texas are looking forward to the end of the school year. Summer break is just around the corner, and with it will come two to three months of fun and excitement. At ATA Family Martial Arts, we love the energy that kids bring to our taekwondo classes, and summer can be a great time for kids to train.

If you’re looking for something physical for your kids to do this summer, then contact us about our martial arts classes. We offer classes throughout the week, so no matter what your or your child’s schedule looks like this summer, you can find a class that works.

Get Them Out of The House

A big temptation for kids during the summer is to sit in front of the TV watching their favorite shows and playing video games. While there’s nothing wrong with a little electronic entertainment, it can be detrimental to a child’s health to spend several hours in front of the TV every day.

Taekwondo classes give you the chance to get your kids out of the house at least once during the week. You might have a day where you run all of your errands, such as grocery shopping or picking up or dropping off the dry cleaning, and you can do all that while your child is practicing martial arts, rather than sitting at home. You may also have a family night out each week, and you can go for pizza or ice cream after their class has finished.

Keep Them Moving

Sitting in front of the TV can also keep kids from moving during the summer. They may have played sports during the school year, but during the summer, they don’t have a good physical outlet, or they may not want to be very active. Martial arts can keep them moving and can help improve their overall health. They’re still going to have the energy they’ve always had, and instead of trying to find ways to keep them active, you can sign them up for martial arts.

Martial arts doesn’t have to be the only physical activity that a child does during the summer. If your child is playing baseball or softball, or they’re taking swimming lessons, then taekwondo can be just another piece in their summer activities.

Staying Connected With Friends

Once the school year is over, your child may not see certain friends until summer break is over. You try to organize playdates and sleepovers, but with how busy every family is, it can be hard for your child to see all of their close friends. Martial arts can provide a way for your child to stay connected with their friends, as they train together each week. You can even arrange to pick up your child’s friends and take them to class, or switch off with another parent each week. It’s a great way of sharing the responsibility of keeping the kids active during the summer, and your child gets to see their friends several times over break!
