During your first class, you may not be able to kick very high, but as time goes on, you’ll be able to place your kicks in the appropriate spots.

Martial arts can also be a great cardio workout. Cardio can be an ideal way to improve your heart health, as you get the blood flowing during each class. It’s important to assess how much sustained physical activity your heart can take before you start training, and you may want to talk to your doctor before signing up for your first class. If your family has a history of heart problems, or you’re at an advanced age, then it’s good to know how far you can push yourself before you need to take a break. As your muscles grow stronger and more toned, your kicks will have more power and your stances will be more steady. It’s important to remember that taekwondo requires fluid movement, so bulking up and being the strongest may not be the best. You want to be strong, but you also want to be fast.
