At ATA Family Martial Arts in Aurora, we’re always excited when a new student joins a class. With programs for ages 4 to 6, 7-12, and 13+, there’s a spot for everyone at our martial arts studio. If you’re a parent who’s considering signing up your child, or your child has expressed interest in taekwondo, then we’d love to speak with you!
As a parent, you want your child to succeed in everything they do, but you know that not everything they do will be easy. If you feel that martial arts would be a good fit for your child, then there are some factors to consider before registering them for their first class.
Fear and Hesitation
Your child may have shown some interest in martial arts, either because of something they saw on TV, or because they have friends who take classes at a nearby studio. When talking with your child, they may seem excited about karate or taekwondo one day, but then are hesitant to bring it up the next. This fear and hesitation can come about when they think about trying something for the first time, or by being in an unfamiliar place. At ATA, we do everything we can to create a safe and welcoming environment for all of our students. If you or your child has questions about our martial arts classes, then we would love to speak with both of you.
New Social Experiences
A martial arts class is intended to teach skill and discipline, helping a child achieve greater things both inside and outside the studio. It’s also a social experience where a child can learn to interact with others in new social situations by figuring out how to navigate conflict in a healthy and constructive way. When a child first enters a class, they may feel overwhelmed by the number of people who are there, specifically the number of people they don’t know.
By having each age group in its own class, we strive to create an environment where a new student can make friends their own age. If your child has a friend who already takes classes with us, then consider signing your child up for the same class. You can also take to the parents of your child’s friends to see if they would think about signing their child up for a class. That way, your child has someone they know to navigate these new social experiences with.
